How many wind turbines will be installed and what will be the output of the wind farm?
The Gunfleet Sands project consists of the already consented Gunfleet Sands 1 project, which has consent to construct up to 30 turbines, yielding a total capacity of 108MW. The proposed extension, Gunfleet Sands 2, was awarded a lease option agreement by Crown Estate in December 2003 and includes up to 22 turbines with a maximum total capacity of 64MW. If the total project is constructed as planned for, approximately 120,000 households – or more than 20% of the households in Essex – can be provided with clean electricity in the years to come. Can the wind farm be seen from onshore? Yes. However the visual impact is reduced as the wind farm will be located approximately 7km off shore. Will the turbines be noisy? No. Due to technological advancements modern wind turbines are very quiet and any sound produced by the wind turbines during operation will not normally be audible from any land location.
