How many VoIP phones can I run on a single broadband connection?
This is difficult to answer and depends on the amount of bandwidth (speed) you have. Most broadband lines only have 256k upload and each VoIP phone call takes approx 40K of bandwidth so we recommend only using a max of 5 VoIP phones per broadband connection. Please be aware that your broadband provider may contend your service with other people so the available bandwidth (speed) may drop at peak times and thereby effect the quality of the VoIP call. The quantiy of phones is not the issue, it is the quanity of consequtive phone calls being made or received. If your broadband connection is downloading other files (or email or websites) at the same time as a phone call the amount of bandwidth available to the VoIP service may be reduced enough to effect the quality of the call. Ideally you would have a dedicated broadband line just for VoIP calls / phones but if you intend sharing a broadband line with phones and computers you will need to try and see how the phone calls are effected.
