How many universities are there in Scotland and when were they founded?
In Scotland we have 14 universities… They are: St.Andrews (founded in 1411 and the oldest Scottish university); Glasgow (founded in 1451); Aberdeen (1495); Edinburgh (1583); Strathclyde University (1964); Heriot-Watt (1966); Dundee University (1967); Stirling University (1967); Napier University (1992); University of Paisley (1992); Robert Gordon University (1992); Glasgow Caledonian University (1993); Abertay University (1994); and, Queen Margaret University College (1999). There is also the UHI Millenium Institute (formerly the University of the Highlands and Islands project) aiming to set up a collegiate university for the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. I am guessing that an Edinburgh MA degree does not necessarily imply any prior postgraduate study. Is that the case? What I mean is, if a person graduated from Edinburgh University in 1952 had he or she done any postgraduate study? I am thinking in particular about Julius K. Nyerere.
