How many types of punishment are prescribed by Indian Penal Code?
The Penal Code for all India applies to any offence committed by an Indian Citizen anywhere and on any Indian registered ship or aircraft, is regularly amended and went into force in 1862. It has also been adopted into the Criminal Law for Pakistan, Bangladesh, Burma, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, all formerly part of Britian colonial legislation dating from 1860. The basis is the law of England, revised by Sir Barnes Peacock, Chief Justice and puisne Judges of the Calcutta Supreme Court. Even cyber crimes can be punished by the code.
