How many types for cobalt chloride paper?
Cobalt chloride paper, as normally stored, is pink. This is because the cobalt chloride is in its hydrated form CoCl2.6H2O. Before use as a test for the presence of water, it is usually heated at 100C + in an oven and when it turns to the blue anhydrous form containing CoCl2. It is then stored in a totally dry situation in a dessicator. So yes, there are blue and pink forms, but you need the blue form to test for moisture, when it turns pink. When labs buy cobalt chloride paper it is naturally pink, so needs to be converted to the blue form before testing.
