How many times in history has Israel been destroyed and re-created?
Israel as a Nation was a Kingdom until around 132CE when it fell completely under the control of The Roman Empire. Subsequent to that it was a part of various Muslim Empires although some of it was briefly held by The Crusaders before falling back into the hold of two Muslim Empires. First the Mamluks and then as a part of The Ottoman Empire until the 20thC. After WW1 (1920 something) it was The British Mandate of Palestine. It was formed as a nation in 1948 after WW2 when many Jews emigrated there from Europe owing to the tragedies that occurred there during that awful war. I think both king Carlos of Spain and Otto Von Hapsburg (maybe others too) both lay claim to the title of King of Jerusalem. So basically it ceased to exist 1900 years ago and was recreated in 1948.
