How many times has Tiger Woods hit a hole-in-one?
– Jay from Bloomington According to USA Today, Woods has hit 18 in his lifetime. But it’s been more than 10 years since he hit one in a PGA tournament: 1997 at the Phoenix Open. He also hit one in 1996 at the Greater Milwaukee Open. According to a company which insures hole-in-one contests, the odds of a pro getting a hole-in-one on a par 3 is 7,500 to 1. Why do we call caddies “caddies?” – Don from St. Paul The term “caddie” comes from a southern French military term, “cadet.” The youngest sons of the aristocrats had to serve in the French army and they were called Cadets. They also had the responsibility of carrying the clubs for the golfing royalty in France. The term “caddie” first appeared in the English language in 1634. Incidentally, Tiger’s caddie, Steve Williams, makes more than $1 million a year. They do more than just carry clubs. They’re like coaches and counselors, helping to read the greens and pick the right clubs. (© MMIX, CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved.
