How many times can a soldier take the NREMT certification exam?

Soldiers in IET may take the exam up to three times, based on their scores. With some caveats, soldiers transitioning are allowed unlimited opportunities to initially certify during the transition period. The Army is only committed to funding one military run EMT course and one exam; subsequent courses and reexaminations are borne by the soldier. NREMT standards allow three attempts at the exam, then require a 24 credit hour refresher course, allow three more attempts, and if unsuccessful require repeating the EMT course. At this point the examination cycle begins anew. The passed portion of the exam remains valid for 12 months from the date of the exam, and within that year individuals are only required to retest the failed portions.
