How many teens get birth control without the parent knowing that they are taking it?
Family Planning encourages adolescents to talk with their parents about birth control and/or the reason they came to Family Planning. We believe that an adolescent’s primary teacher is their parent(s). Realizing the importance of good, open communication, Family Planning offers the T.A.L.K.S. program, which has been funded by United Way for many years. This program, primarily for mother and daughters of puberty age, is designed to facilitate commuication about body changes, challenges of teen years, good decision making and what constitutes a healthy relationship. This program has also been offered to foster parents, grandparents raising grandchildren and exchange students and their American host families. Many who have participated in this program express, even years later, how this class helped keep the lines of communication open as their child moved through their teen years.
