In the Midwest area, method 5035, or methanol preservation in the field, is mandatory in Minnesota, Missouri, Iowa and Wisconsin. Montana, North and South Dakota either prohibit or discourage the consultants from using field preservation methods. The states that don’t require field preservation typically do so as a safety or hazardous waste measure.
