How many songs did beethoven compose ?
I have previously answered a very similar question: I am assuming that you mean pieces when you say songs (songs are vocal pieces with lyrics) He composed 345 pieces catalogued pieces. There are over 400 pieces that he wrote (that are known). But since these include variations on a theme and the like they are not catalogued and it also includes songs, in his song cycle for example, that are counted as one piece. Of these 345 pieces 138 have opus numbers. Songs however are a different matter. He wrote one opera, Fidelio, although one could say he wrote three opera’s as there are three settings of Fidelio including the original Leonore. He wrote 5 choral pieces (excluding the 9th symphony) and he wrote 36 “songs”. So he wrote an opera and 41 songs.
