How many rescue swimmers are in the Coast Guard?
The Coast Guard currently has 336 active duty rescue swimmers. What is the relationship between Rescue Swimmers & the US Coast Guard Academy? Rescue swimmers properly known as Aviation Survival Technicians are Coast Guard enlisted personnel, while Coast Guard Academy graduates are Coast Guard officers. Cadets at the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT, undergo rigorous training to graduate as ensigns and ultimately lead and deploy the missions in which rescue swimmers are engaged. Coast Guard Academy graduates fly the aircraft and captain the sailing vessels. Cadets proudly adhere to an honor code and undergo intense academic, athletic and leadership training as the basis of their core curriculum.
