How many rescue helicopters are there in the province?
442 Squadron is the only full-time/professional helicopter rescue service in all of British Columbia and the Yukon! A volunteer group performs helicopter rescues in the North Shore Mountains, but they do not offer the other services/capabilities the ESD does. The ESD can assist Search and Rescue efforts as well as perform multiple other missions (see Mission Profile). Q: Where does the name ESD come from? A: Emergency Services Detail (ESD) implies this service can be ‘detailed’ out to any and all emergency services, be it ambulance, fire, police, search and rescue, etc. The ESD looks to enhance British Columbia’s public safety system in a myriad of ways.
