How many Ray Conniff records have been sold?
Some years back, Ray performed some analysis to try to determine how many albums had been sold. The estimate is around 65 million. One reason why it is so difficult to arrive at a number is that Ray’s music has appeared on hundreds of various artists compilations around the world. In my opinion, if Somewhere My Love appears on a compilation that sells 120,000 copies, we should add about 10,000 albums to Ray’s total (give Ray 1/12th the credit for every album sold). Likewise, I’d count every 6 sales of a two-sided single as an album. No matter how the calculation is made, it is a lot of albums! Relatively few recording artists have enjoyed the sales or career longevity of Ray Conniff.
