How many raspberry leaf tablets should I take, Im 38 weeks on Sat?….?
Raspberry Leaf Tea capsules are fine to take when you’re pregnant, in fact, some midwives (including my own!) recommend taking them as it prepares the cervix for birth. I’m taking 3 a day at the moment, but 38 weeks is fine to start taking 3 as well. It’s probably best for your body to start on the lower dose and build up, so maybe take 3 for 3 days – and if during these 3 days you notice any unusual symptoms, give your midwife a ring and explain… then 4 for 2 days, 5 for 2 days and then 6 until you give birth. There’s nothing harmful in the capsules as it’s all herbal. No harmful chemicals! It’s stuff that you buy in chemists or pharmacies that you should really be careful of, like painkillers, antihistamines, etc… If you’re in doubt though, maybe just contact your midwife or maternity unit and ask what they think!
Raspberry Leaf is a uterine tonic, which also has added benefits after the birth for breastmilk production. Some women like Raspberry Leaf tea, however if you don’t like the taste or want a specific, stronger dose, you might like to buy some from your health food store. It’s generally recommended anytime after 12 weeks in a healthy pregnancy. Taking from the third trimester would be about 2400mg but a little more won’t hurt, it won’t induce you so no need to worry.
