If by Forensic Scientist you mean someone who works in laboratory sections of the police forensic service, then you will need a good honours degree in forensic science or analytical science. If you are more interested in the “street” side of the work (scenes of crime officer etc) then a qualification in photography is the most useful – it is easier to train a photographer in the science behind evidence collection than it is to train a scientist to be a good photographer. The number of these jobs available in the UK is very limited (as other answers have said) but they are also not very well paid, despite the irregular hours and the stresses of the work.
