How many “professional” bodyguards are there in the world?
As an approximate guess, identifying professionally trained operatives trained to the same level as APB (Australian Professional Bodyguards) operatives, we would be looking at around 100,000 — this is not including government operatives. Q: Is the profession increasing in popularity or decreasing? Due to the increase in world violence, there is an increase in people wanting to conduct high-level security, although we are unable to comment on the quality of their training. Q: How many deaths and/or injuries have there been in the bodyguarding industry? [That’s hard to say] because not all deaths and injuries are publicized. We do know of five occasions where a person has conducted a basic bodyguard crash course and taken on a high-risk operation, believing they had the essential training and experience.
