How many processes are there in CMMI?
They’re called Process Areas (PAs) in CMMI and in the current version (v1.2, released August 2006) there are 22. There were 25 in v1.1. CMMI v1.2 is now called, “CMMI for Development” because there are PAs specific to improving engineering practices of solution development. CMMI for Development is a “constellation” of PAs. For improving service or acquisition practices, other PAs might be better so by the end of 2007 (or so), there will be two more CMMI constellations: one for Services and one for Acquisition. We’re focusing this list on the one that’s out: CMMI for Development. We list here the ones in v1.2 (taken directly from the SEI) since that will be the de-facto ‘baseline’ CMMI very soon.
