How many persons suffer from leprosy even today?
WHO estimates 2.5 to 3 million leprosy patients. Every hour, 60 new leprosy patients are discovered worldwide. On an average, out of these 60 persons, five already suffer from severe disabilities, 11 out of these are children under fourteen years. The number of new infections – approx. 800,000 per year – has remained constant for years.
