How many people will need to be licensed as Euthanasia Providers?
There may be a need to license approximately 125-150 individuals as Euthanasia Providers. Currently there may only be 70-80 people administering humane euthanasia with a controlled substance. But the number of licensees will likely increase after a licensing program is in place that will allow Providers to access controlled substances without the high costs of veterinary supervision in private contracted facilities. In addition, county and municipal facilities may be more likely to transition from less humane euthanasia methods like carbon monoxide to the most humane method of sodium pentobarbital when Euthanasia Provider infrastructure is in place.
