How many people will lose their jobs when Monson Trucking closes in Duluth?

0

A 94-year-old trucking company headquartered in Duluth is closing. Monson Trucking notified employees Wednesday that the Duluth office would close by August 31 and its other terminals in Virginia and Red Wing, Minnesota and Mauston, Wisconsin, are closed immediately.Mike Monson, co-owner of the company, blamed the decision on downturns in the general economy and the paper industry, and two major clients decisions to file bankruptcy. He said those two clients cost the company $500,000. Monson said closing the company will put about 200 people out of work. He said drivers have been told to bring back their trucks and clean out their personal belongings. The company plans to retain some mechanics for 60 days to clean up the equipment and get it ready for auction. Displaced employees could file for unemployment. Monson said it was a hard decision for his family, given it has been a family owned and operated company for 94 years. Sources:
