February 9, 2009 All administrative areas are reducing workforces. Sixty people face layoffs through job eliminations resulting from reorganizations, most effective April 10, 2009. Another 28 staffers face reductions in hours. Dartmouth made an effort to minimize the number of layoffs by taking measures in November 2008 to eliminate vacant jobs through attrition and reorganizations; to freeze outside hiring; to offer a retirement incentive; and to transfer staff into positions vacated through retirements. More than 70 staff members are participating in the retirement program.
