How many people were killed in the Washington Metro Crash?
USA TODAY’s Donna Leinwand reports that Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty confirmed that at least seven people died and two people remain hospitalized in critical condition after Monday’s rush-hour Metro train crash. Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board worked through the night to document the accident scene and will examine the cars, tracks, signaling systems and data recorders to determine the cause of the crash, spokeswoman Debbie Hersman says. She says the investigative team will issue an order to preserve text and cellphone records from the time of the crash, in which one train rear-ended another. Hersman says the train that was hit is a newer, upgraded train and has nine data recorders. The oncoming train, made up of Metro’s oldest cars, has no data recorders, she says.
