How many people were killed in the name of religion?
Hitler murdered six million because they were Jewish, and that was only a part of the number killed in that war. Most wars are based on religion, and as others have pointed out, a lot more than 1000 were killed in one act alone on 9/11. I would say that religion, or at least the lack of tolerance towards other peoples religions, is the major cause of traumatic death throughout modern history.
