There is a lot of information available on the web about usage and heart rate zones. I do a lot of “recovery” runs where I do not let my heart rate rise about 70% of my maxHR. This allows me to get my mileage in without the possible injury or over-training symptoms you can get from training for a marathon. For walking, you’ll want to stay within zones as well. Getting your heart rate up to 70% will burn more fat than carbs. Dipping below 65% and you’re increasing your aerobic capacity and higher will increase your anaroebic capacity and VO2max (the efficency of how your body converts oxygen). It’s also a great gauge on your overall health. I check my resting heart rate each morning… if it is over 8 beats more than usual, I either over-trained the day before
