How many people live in underdeveloped countries?
It’s hard to know the exact number, because which countries are “developed” and which countries are “underdeveloped” is debatable. We can go by statistics of poverty in certain countries/regions, as well as estimates. It’s estimated that 80% of the world’s population lives on less than $10 a day. It’s also estimated that 1.1 billion people live on less than $1 per day. According to the United Nations Human Development Index (HDI), over 100 of the world’s countries are listed as “low HDI” (i.e. poor, a lot of poverty) … so that’s well over the majority of the global population. Developed countries of the EU, Canada, Australia, Japan, United States, etc have very small populations.
