How Many People Live In Australia?
It was estimated in 2000 that there are now over 19 million people living in Australia. That may not seem like a lot and it really is not when you consider that the United States has over 270 million in a country that is only slightly larger than Australia. It seems even more interesting when you think that over 7 million people live in the 2 major cities, Melbourne and Sydney. The 0-14 year old age group represents approximately 21% of the population, 15-64 years of age represents 67% and over 64 years of age group accounts for 12%. The male to female ratio is approximately 50:50. The average life span is around 80 years. Another interesting point is that Australia has a 100% literacy rate.
Australia is the same landmass as the USA with a population of only 21,320,246 this includes the indigenous and migrated population who live through out the whole country landmass of Australia not just in one city. There are over 305,000,000 plus American’s who live in the exact same landmass. There are just over 4 million people living currently in Sydney and just over 3 million people living in Melbourne and just over 2 million in Brisbane and Perth and just 1 and a half million in Adelaide and Darwin. The rest of the population is spread out in this very large and very densely populated country. The state I live in here in Australia, New South Wales is twice the size of the US state of Texas. There are currently just a little over 200,000 American born living here. Also many American born people you may know like, Nicole Kidman, Mel Gibson and Kate Blanchet who like myself all migrated here as kids and been raised and educated here.
