Estimates of the number of people affected vary from 600,0001 to over 2 million2. • Osteoporosis Australia estimates that 2.2 million Australians are affected by osteoporosis.3 On average in Australia, someone is admitted to hospital with an osteoporotic fracture every 5 to 6 minutes. That is about 262 people every day.2 One in every two women and one in three men over the age of 60 will have a fracture due to osteoporosis.
