How many people hate the post- prefix when its bandied about by philosophers, artists, etc.?
You are right there. It is absolutely meaningless when the word coming after is itself ‘relative’. So Post-modernism is wrong usage as ‘modern’ is relatively speaking. Only when it is definitive, prefixing post can be meaningful, like post-colonial or post-Communist (if I may call it that) after the fall of global communism. But post-perestroika or post- glasnost id really mongrelisation, should be desisted and a suitable replacement can easily be found. Even post-USSR is OK, now that USSR is past. Most of the users (or ‘coiners’) of the terms suffer from ‘obscurantism’ if not ‘obfuscation’. While the terms, more so in Philosophy and Sociology, are expected to clearly communicate what is meant in accepted terminology, the perpetrator wants to get away with it by attempting to sound ‘fashionable’ that is out of place.
