How many people died in the the Nigeria violence and the disregarded warnings?
Muslim clerics in northern Nigeria say authorities ignored dozens of their warnings about an Islamist sect that last week attacked police stations and government buildings in a bloodbath that killed more than 700 people. Imam Ibrahim Ahmed Abdullahi says he and 50 other Muslim leaders repeatedly warned police, local authorities and state security services about the violent Boko Haram group. The sect on July 26 attacked a police station in Bauchi state. The violence spread to three other northern states. Nigerian authorities retaliated, attacking the group’s headquarters in Maiduguri and killing about 100 people. Sect leader Mohammed Yusuf was killed Thursday. Human rights groups are urging an investigation into the death. Sources: http://www.google.
