How many people are required to operate a business as a corporation?
Legally, only one person is required to form a corporation to complete the Articles of Incorporation and file them with the Secretary of State. This person is known as the Incorporator and is often an attorney. In most states, Articles may be filed with the signature(s) of the initial director(s) rather than being signed by an Incorporator. After the corporation has been formed, one individual may fill all of the required capacities: i.e., as the sole shareholder and director, and serving as president, secretary, and treasurer or chief financial officer.
