How many people are attacked each year by sharks?
There are generally somewhere between 50 and 80 confirmed shark attacks on humans each year. Of those, the number of fatalities is rarely more than 10 and is generally significantly lower, with an average of 5 per year since 2000. 2007, for example, saw one fatality. On the other hand, some estimates put the number of sharks killed each year by humans at 100 million. Clearly, humans are a much greater danger to sharks than sharks are to humans by a factor of several million.
