How many people are affected with HIV in the world and in the Eastern Mediterranean Region?
According to WHO estimates, by end-2004, nearly 40 million people, including over 2.2 million children, are living with HIV/AIDS. Every day, more than 13 000 persons are infected with HIV and 8000 die of AIDS. More than 8 million people have developed AIDS. In the Eastern Mediterranean Region, the estimated figure is 710 000.
