How many people are affected in the U.S.?
In this study Abt Associates, for the Clean Air Task Force, estimate that approximately 21,000 people in the U.S. die prematurely each year from breathing diesel soot, 3,000 of these from lung cancer. Another 27,000 heart attacks, 14,500 hospitalizations and 2.4 million lost work days are attributable to diesel particulate matter exposures. For more details see Abt report at: http://www.catf.
