How many Paramedics work for the Key Peninsula Fire Department?
The Key Peninsula Fire Department currently employs 10 full-time Paramedic/Firefighters that are used to staff the ambulances. There are 4 additional officers in the department that can jump on an ambulance to lend a hand or run additional calls when needed. Those ten paramedics are split up on 3 different shifts giving each shift 3-4 paramedics each. However due to failed fire levy’s and the resulting budget constraints, the department has had to modify the minimum number of people on shift each day in order to control overtime costs. Currently the minimum number of people working any given day is 1 Officer, 1 Firefighter and 1 Paramedic. Reaching this minimum staffing is the exception not the norm. Most days you will find at least 2 Paramedics on shift along with Firefighter and an Officer.
