How many Ounces in a pint of water?

This a great question and the answers given so far need clarification. The one thing you can bet on is that a “pint” does not refer to 16 ounces. The Universal Standard (SI) for a “pint” is 500ml. As you will see in Quirkie’s detailed answer, the US “pint” and England’s Imperial “pint” differ in ounces from one another (a full 20%). Neither of those two weights in ounces are scientific measures (of weight based on volume or weight by mass) that meet the worldwide standard/definition for “pint” established by the international organization of Universal Standands of weights and measures(SI). These standards and their revisions, have been adopted worldwide since 1795. Ony the United States, Liberia and Burma have not committed to converting to the world recognized science of measures. Your question asked “How many Ounces in a pint of water”. The common answer given by American people is “16oz” although our 16oz of water measures/weighs only 473ml, this is short of the SI 500ml requirement
