How many operas have had their world premieres at the Met?
The Met has presented the world premiere of twenty-nine operas including John Harbison’s The Great Gatsby on December 20, 1999. Other recent works given world premieres at the Met include John Corigliano and William M. Hoffman’s The Ghosts of Versailles on December 19, 1991, and Philip Glass’ The Voyage on October 12, 1992. Additionally, Tobias Picker and Tan Dun have each received a commission from the Met for operas that will premiere by 2007.
