How many Nancekuke dumps are there?
There are 5 dumps associated with CDE Nancekuke activity that have been declared as contaminated land and plans are being developed to deal with these. The Dumps are designated as A to E.Dump A has an approximate surface area of 2300 m2 and is approximately 12m deep. It is an in-filled quarry that was probably used by the RAF during the Second World War and subsequently by CDE Nancekuke. Dump B is a valley in-fill approximately 5m deep with a surface area of 7200m2. Dump C is approximately 500 m2 and 3m deep. It consists of a series of shallow pits / trenches and the Dump is very close to the area where the coastal footpath is being eroded. Dump C is being tackled first and formal planning to remediate this dump has been secured. The final 2 dumpsites are mineshafts (D & E).
