How many minutes should my 4th grader be doing homework?

Typically, your fourth grader should be doing homework for 40 minutes to an hour. Silent reading time is about 20-30 minutes, and then the rest of the time should be for writing a summary of their reading in their reading log, math homework, spelling,writing journal and Social Studies/Science assignments (as needed). Please let me know if you feel that your child’s homework needs to be modified.
