How many miles to a gallon do motorcycles get ?
As others have said, a lot of variables. Just as in automobiles, smaller vehicles and smaller engines get better mileage. Just as in automobiles, hard acceleration and high speed gets worse mileage. A small scooter on city streets can get 80 mpg. You get that at a cost of not being able to take the freeways. My 650, with idling at lights and hard acceleration and braking still gets over 45mpg on city streets. Add a bit of freeway and my average is 55-60mpg. My best was a putt across the Mojave on CA62 — over 70 mpg. On tour I got 60-65 mpg, but the 650 is a small bike for touring. Big touring motorcycles will actually get worse highway mileage than many automobiles, due to wind drag on a blocky bike versus a streamlined car. But you don’t get bored on a bike.
