The Colorado River is 1,450 miles (2,330 km) in length. Its origin is in La Poudre Pass Lake in northern Colorado. From there the river follows a southwesterly path into Utah, through Lake Powell which is formed by the Glen Canyon Dam, and then into Arizona where it flows through the Grand Canyon. After the Grand Canyon the river enters Lake Mead, formed by Hoover Dam. Below Hoover Dam the river forms the border between Nevada and Arizona and then between California and Arizona. Ultimately the river enters Mexico before discharging into the Gulf of Mexico. La Poudre Pass Lake (el. 3101 m./10,175 ft.) is a high lakelet located in the Rocky Mountains of northern Colorado in the United States. The lake is located within Rocky Mountain National Park along the boundary between Grand and Larimer counties. The lake straddles the continental divide and feeds the headwaters of the Cache la Poudre River and is the source of the Colorado River. The pass does not carry a road, but is traverseable
