How many miles are there between Houston and Galveston Texas?
If you want the mileage from city limit to city limit it is only about 24 miles. Galveston’s city limits are on the north side of the Causeway (I45) and Houston’s goes as far south as Bay Area Blvd (Baybrook) on I45. The Galveston city limits was extended through annexation several years ago. The old city limits was in the middle of the Causeway (at the top of the hump). The annexation took place so that the city limits of Galveston and Texas City would touch. This had the effect of reducing certain shipping charges between the two cities. It also caused the police department to have to work a lot more accidents. The official mileage is from downtown to downtown and it is just under 50 miles. If you go from San Luis Pass on the far west end of Galveston to northwest Houston it is over 85 miles. This means you can drive 60 miles without leaving the city of Houston.
