How many Messianic Jews are there in Israel?
A thorough study of the Messianic Jewish community in Israel was published in 1999 by the United Christian Council In Israel in cooperation with the Caspari Center for Biblical and Jewish Studies. It is called “Facts and Myths about the Messianic Congregations in Israel.” Here’s what this excellent study found: There were 81 groups made up of 69 congregations and 12 house groups. Of the 81 groups, some 57 were founded in the 1990’s. Prior to 1948 there were two congregations. In the 1950’s five congregations were added. In the 1960’s no congregations were added. In the 1970’s seven congregations were added. In the 1980’s ten congregations were added. In the 1990’s 57 congregations were added. In 1948, at the founding of the State of Israel, the number of Jewish believers was fewer than 200.
