With 1.4 million members, SEIU is the largest and fastest growing union in the AFL-CIO. SEIU is the largest public employee union in New England, and the major union of state employees in Maine and New Hampshire. It also represents large numbers of state employees in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York. New Hampshire’s independent state employees’ association affiliated with SEIU in 1984. The Maine state employees’ affiliated with SEIU in 1989.
