How many forums should the city hold to discuss the environmental impact report on a proposal to drill for oil in the Whittier hills? Dan Duran, president of Whittier Hills Oil Watch, asked for five at Tuesday’s City Council meeting. It was one of four requests, including asking for a copy of the administrative draft of the report being reviewed by city staff. “We have a very diverse community with different types of schedules,” Duran said in an interview Friday. “It would only be appropriate to have a number of meetings. They should be held throughout the city in the south side of town, Friendly Hills, Uptown and east Whittier.” So far, city officials only plan to have two meetings regarding the report. In late October, there will be a workshop to answer questions about the report and in November or early December – before the 60-day-period runs out – a second meeting will be held to take comments on the report.
