How many left handed US presidents have held office?
Especially recently! There have been 8 left handed presidents! James Garfield, 1881 Herbert Hoover, 1929 – 1933 Harry Truman, 1945 – 1953 Gerald Ford, 1974 – 1977 Ronald Reagan, 1981 – 1989 George Bush, 1989 – 1993 Bill Clinton, 1993 – 2001 Barack Obama, 2009 – Ronald Reagan, some say, was a lefty forced to be a righty. There is also some dispute about Herbert Hoover. We were destined to have a lefty as president this time, as John McCain is also a southpaw. (Mrs. Clinton was not left handed–she had no chance!) This has happened with even more weight on the left side in 1992, when George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and H. Ross Perot all were lefties! That’s pretty strange when you consider the odds. 10 percent to 15 percent of the population of the US is left handed. So it’s very interesting that so many Presidents have been lefties.
