how many kingdoms did they have in the middle ages?

If you are specifically referring to the Middle Ages in Europe, the answer would be very difficult to provide; if you are expanding that to include the entire world, I would have no clue. The Middle Ages could range from approx. 460 AD til maybe 1300 or so. There were numerous kingdoms that came and went, but here are the ones I can think of: Aragon & Castille (modern Spain), France, England, Poland, Hungary. There may have been Kings of some of the Scandinavian Countries, such as Denmark & Sweden. There was not really a King of Germany, but the son of the Holy Roman Emperor was often entitled the King of the Romans. And Italy was not united so there was never a King of the Italians. There would have been two Emperors: Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire (modern day Germany, eastern France, the Low Countries, Czech Republic and Northern Italy); as well as the Byzantine Emperor who resided in Constantinople (a.k.a. Istanbul after 1453). Hope this helps!
