How many jobs will be created by FutureGen?
FutureGen at Mattoon will create an average of 5000 jobs across the nation before 2012. It will deliver immediate short-term job creation with peak national job creation of 11,000. • The U.S. manufacturing base will be energized by major equipment purchases, which will begin in 2010. • Substantial union labor will be mobilized in 2011 as groundbreaking begins. • During construction thousands of service sector jobs will be created. • FutureGen at Mattoon will help lay the industrial foundation for a major new carbon capture and sequestration industry that could employ tens of thousands of workers in the coming decades.
