You need 3 feet per person to sit comfortable. So to seat 12 people five to a side plus two at the ends you need 15 feet. Most tables this size have expansion leaves. The table closed can be 7 or 8 feet. Unless you have a very large dinning room full sized 15 foot tables are rare. If you want to do a elbow to elbow set up you can get away with 12 feet but we do not recomend this, it is unconfortable and invades a persons personal space. A table sized 12 -15 feet is also 42-45 inches wide.
