How many households and businesses in Alaska will be connected through the Northern Fiber Optic Link?
NFOL will provide critical connectivity to homes, businesses, and community anchor institutions. Large bandwidth users on the system include fishing and processing companies operating the in largest commercial fisheries in the US and supporting tens of thousands of US jobs, traditional and renewable energy company operations, schools, libraries, university extension campuses, hospitals, health clinics, climate and environmental research entities and state and federal agencies that support law enforcement and national defense. In addition, the system will support coverage to 143 federally-recognized Indian Tribes and Tribal Organizations, 25% of all Tribes in the US. The system has been designed and scaled to meet all the current and future needs of all the users in the region. In addition, the Northern Fiber Optic Link will immediately provide connectivity to 12,066 households and 1,783 businesses.
